Del Mar is a quaint seaside town where you enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Magnificent beaches, picturesque views, a nice meal in a cozy cafe, and outstanding shopping make Del Mar one of the gems of Southern California.
Nestled in between Solana Beach to the north and La Jolla to the south, Del Mar is home to natural beauties such as the San Dieguito lagoon as well as the Torrey Pines State Reserve. Del Mar is famous for the thoroughbred horse racing track which is the only one within San Diego County. Every year during horse racing season, the area comes alive with horse enthusiasts. Bing Crosby founded the racetrack and was there to greet the first fan who walked through the gates back in 1937. The racetrack also hosts the annual San Diego County Fair along with various trade shows and concerts throughout the year.
As with any beach community in San Diego, Del Mar offers many things for residents and visitors to do and see. There is always an energy of excitement in the air. Whether it's enjoying beach-front dining at Jake's, shopping at Del Mar Plaza, or taking in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, Del Mar is a place you'll never forget.
Once the getaway destination for celebrities like Jimmy Durante and Bing Crosby, many of the homes in Del Mar still maintain the ambiance of exclusivity and wealth. Del Mar real estate consists of condos, beach bungalows, and of course, million-dollar beach front properties. Many of the homes were built before or during the 80's, however, there are many new housing developments east of Highway 5 in the Del Mar Heights area. It's very common to see a home going through remodeling or renovations.
Across the freeway to the east of Del Mar is the gorgeous community of Rancho Santa Fe where you'll find multi-million dollar homes. 25 minutes south is downtown San Diego.
